Eyelid Surgery

Your eyes are often the first feature people notice about you, and they play a crucial role in expressing your emotions and connecting with others. As you get older, the delicate skin around your eyes can begin to show signs of age, leading to droopy eyelids, excess skin, and an overall tired appearance.

These changes not only affect your self-confidence but can also obstruct your vision, making daily activities more challenging. Other conditions can also develop that may affect the function of your eyelids.

At Florida Vision Institute, we understand the importance of healthy, youthful-looking eyes. Our experienced oculoplastic surgeon, Dr. Maria Garcia, specializes in eyelid surgery and can help restore the natural function of your eyelids or accomplish your cosmetic goals.

What is Eyelid Surgery?

Eyelid surgery is a surgical procedure that can help improve the appearance and function of the eyelids and address various eye conditions. As you age, the skin around your eyes can stretch, leading to droopy eyelids or excess skin that can obstruct vision.

Additionally, eyelids can be affected by skin cancer, tumors, and other conditions. Eyelid surgery can help correct these issues, resulting in a more youthful appearance and even improved vision in some cases.

What Are the Steps to Getting Eyelid Surgery?

If you are interested in getting eyelid surgery, here are the steps you will need to take:

Consultation

The first step in getting eyelid surgery is to schedule a consultation with Dr. Maria Garcia at Florida Vision Institute in West Palm Beach, Florida. During this appointment, Dr. Garcia will assess your eye health, review your medical history, and discuss your aesthetic concerns and goals.

She will also perform a comprehensive eye exam to determine if you are a good candidate for the procedure. If eyelid surgery is right for you, Dr. Garcia will develop a customized treatment plan tailored to your specific needs.

Procedure

Eyelid surgery is typically performed as an outpatient procedure with local anesthesia. Depending on which type of eyelid surgery you have, Dr. Garcia will use specific techniques for the most natural results.

Upper eyelid lifts can help improve drooping or sagging eyelids, whereas lower eyelid surgery can help with under-eye bags and drooping. However, these aren’t the only procedures available to help improve eyelid function or appearance.

The technique will vary depending on which procedure you are having. For upper eyelid surgery, to help with drooping upper eyelids, Dr. Garcia will make small incisions along the natural creases of the eyelids.

This helps to hide the incision line once healed. In lower eyelid surgery, she will place the incisions either on the outside or inside of the eyelid, depending on your needs.

After this, Dr. Garcia will remove any excess skin or fat from the eyelids. Lastly, the incisions are closed with tiny sutures that will dissolve on their own.

Recovery

Following your eyelid surgery, you will be given detailed post-operative instructions to ensure a smooth recovery. These instructions may include using an antibiotic ointment to prevent infection and using cold compresses to minimize swelling.

It is very important that you avoid strenuous activities after the procedure to allow your body to heal properly. Most people can recover from eyelid surgery in a few weeks.

At Florida Vision Institute, we understand that any surgical procedure can be associated with risks. That’s why we offer eyelid surgery with highly trained and experienced staff to minimize potential complications and provide optimal results.

Our team at Florida Vision Institute is committed to guiding you through every step of the process, from consultation to recovery, ensuring that you feel confident and well-informed throughout your journey to rejuvenated, youthful-looking eyes.
